In Search of the Perfect Salsa

If you’re like me, you love salsa. Particularly, salsa cruda (defined by wikipedia as (“raw sauce”), also known as pico de gallo (“rooster’s beak”), salsa picada (“chopped sauce”), salsa mexicana (“Mexican sauce”), or salsa fresca (“fresh sauce”): made with raw tomatoes, lime juice, chilli peppers, onions, cilantro leaves, and other coarsely chopped raw ingredients.)

Truth is…I HATE cilantro (yuck, the thought of it makes me gag). Martha Stewart be damned, I just cannot acquire a taste for her “favorite” herb. I could easily make my own, but the convenience of bottled salsa is too hard to pass up. Problem is, I live in a bottled salsa wasteland. The meager offerings we have in our stores just don’t measure up. The ingredients are bland, the texture is too mushy, just a myriad of issues.
About the ONLY really outstanding bottled salsa I’ve ever found at Kroger was this one:

Frog Ranch All-Natural Chipotle Salsa
The chipotle pepper, a sun-ripened mesquite-smoked jalapeno, adds an irresistible medium-hot naturally smoky flavor.
I could eat a jar a week! Just when I had gotten hooked on this brand, Kroger stopped carrying it. Woe is me!
So, chime in and tell me what your favorite bottled salsa is. Maybe I can find it in this god-forsaken part of the world. OR, if you have a cilantro-less recipe, please share!

(BTW, “salsa” is one of my favorite words.)

Salsa is a great word, isn’t it? I don’t have a great recipe, but I do have a couple of suggestions for bottled brands. Believe it or not, the Wal-Mart brand of black bean & corn salsa is very good, and cheap! Also, Paul Newman’s is decent. I also like All Seasons, but I don’t know if they are all over the country yet. They are based out of Connecticut. They have some nice salsas in the refrigerated area, including the kind with cheese mixed in. I have found this brand at Costco.

p.s. – whomp, the text in this comment box is VERY hard to read when you are typing. It is tiny, and light pink against a darker pink. Is that something you can fix? Thanks!

jenfera, we can fix that, I think! Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll check them out!
