Recently visited New Orleans...

for a seminar on restaurant purchasing, accounting and cost control. I really learned a lot and the materials will help me teach my students.
Also had a little mini-family reunion. My ex-huzzband and his wife had spent the week in New Orleans celebrating their 30th anniversary. It was nice to visit with them.
RD had an audition for a Red Cross commercial while I was there and he called last nite to tell me he got a call-back!
Here's a picture of the "merge." (moi, RD, and Peter)

a Legend is gone...

Julia Child, author of "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" and host of one of the first cooking shows, died at 91 today in her sleep.
I chose the culinary field as a career because of this woman. I'm sure she has been an inspiration to countless others, too.
I feel as if I've lost a mentor.

See Julia's kitchen at the Smithsonian Museum here.

Read about Julia and view her books here.

Enchilada Wednesday...

Made a batch of chicken enchiladas today....it's been so long since I made tortillas from scratch.....but they are well worth the trouble.
I guess the recent mass immigration of Mexicans to our area caused the grocers around here to stock ethnic ingredients (like Masa Harina) for which I am grateful.
Oh, for dessert, I baked Mississippi Mud Cake from the Southern Living Magazine, June, 2004 edition. To die for.
If anyone wants that recipe, I'll post it.
